Tekla PowerFab includes an option to forcibly log another user out of Tekla PowerFab.  This is useful in cases where you need another user to exit the program so an upgrade can be performed or to free up a network license for another user.  To begin, select the menu option File > Administration, then on the Administration screen select the menu option Administration > Users Currently Logged In.

This screen has always been part of Tekla PowerFab, and it shows all of the users logged into this database. Here it shows that the users 'admin' and 'epm' are currently logged into the program.  This new feature has added two additional buttons on the bottom of the screen, Force Shutdown and Cancel Shutdown.  This current session of Tekla PowerFab is the one logged in by 'admin' so the Force Shutdown button is disabled.  A user cannot perform a force shutdown on themselves.

Select one ore more users to force out of the program and click the Force Shutdown button to proceed.

When you click the Force Shutdown button a screen will appear for you to enter the time before that user's session of Tekla PowerFab will shut down and a message to display to that user so they can understand why they are being kicked out of the program.

A time of at least 5 minutes is recommended so the user has an opportunity to wrap up what they are working on. If the time is set to 0 minutes then the user will receive no warning, their session of Tekla PowerFab will simply exit.  This should be avoided as it is likely to cause confusion and loss of un-saved work.

A descriptive message is recommended as it will be displayed for the user whose session is being terminated.  If you attempt to proceed with a blank message the following prompt will appear:

You can proceed with a blank message, but it is much better to give an appropriate message:

Click the Force Shutdown button to begin the shutdown process on the Tekla PowerFab sessions selected on the Users Currently Logged In screen.  A session that has a shutdown pending will be highlighted in yellow.

Within seconds, a message will appear on the screen of the sessions that have been selected for shutdown along with an audible 'ding' to alert the user.

A message is also shown on the top-right of the Tekla PowerFab background that will count down the time remaining before the program will be forcibly closed.

A message will appear when there are two minutes remaining before shutdown, and another with one minute remaining at which point the message on the top-right of the Tekla PowerFab background will count down the seconds until shutdown.

When the shutdown time is reached Tekla PowerFab will exit, regardless of what the user has open or is doing in the program.  Any un-saved data that has been entered will be lost, which is why it is important to give the user adequate time.

The pending shutdown can be cancelled by any user with administrative permissions by going into the Users Currently Logged In screen, selecting one or more users highlighted in yellow with a pending shutdown, and clicking the Cancel Shutdown button.

If the user that is being kicked out of the program has administrative permissions then they can themselves go into that screen and cancel their own shutdown.  Users that do not have administrative permissions cannot cancel the pending shutdown on their own.
