Trimble Acquires the Assets of FabSuite to
Expand its Steel Fabrication Software Portfolio
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 20, 2018 – Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) announced today that it has acquired the assets of Williamsburg, Virginia-based FabSuite, LLC, North America’s leading supplier of Management Information System (MIS) solutions for steel fabrication. With the acquisition of FabSuite software, Trimble’s portfolio now includes the complete structural steel workflow for planning, managing, designing, modeling and automating the fabrication processes to maximize constructability. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Steel fabricators produce a broad range of structures by cutting, drilling, shaping and assembling components. FabSuite’s MIS software connects the information flow and the work processes of the departments, suppliers and clients of a fabrication plant, significantly improving project and site coordination. It is an essential tool for managing the production and ensuring timely deliveries of fabricated structures to contractors. FabSuite complements Trimble’s Tekla® Structures and Trimble Connect™ software. With FabSuite, the combined solutions will enable fabricators to achieve efficiency improvements and cost savings by integrating steel fabrication with constructible model workflows.
“Trimble has a leading technology portfolio for management and collaboration across the construction lifecycle,” said Jari Heino, general manager of Trimble’s Structures Division. “The industry trend is moving towards more constructability in workflows and prefabrication. With the addition of MIS software, Trimble creates a compelling and complete value proposition for fabricators enabling them to gain the full benefits of a constructible model-based workflow.”
“FabSuite is an industry-leading MIS software in North America and now Trimble represents an even brighter future for the product and our customers,” said Bill Issler, the founder and CEO of FabSuite. Chris Moor, COO of FabSuite: “This is an incredible opportunity to enable steel fabricators to close the gap between BIM and MIS, streamlining logistics, resources and production. The commitment from Trimble to continually innovate and provide value in the supply chain is clear and we are proud to be a part of the company.”

FabSuite and Datacomp Announce Cooperation
FabSuite to use Datacomp’s IFC Model Viewer, BIM Vision, for its latest innovation: FabSuite View
Williamsburg, Virginia – December 11, 2017 – FabSuite, LLC – North America’s leading supplier of Steel Management Software – is pleased to announce a cooperation agreement with Datacomp sp. z.o.o., developers of the leading IFC model viewer, BIM Vision. As part of a new add-on product called FabSuite View, FabSuite will provide a version of BIM Vision, rebranded and completely integrated into their industry leading FabSuite platform for steel fabricators.
FabSuite View is a completely new way for FabSuite users to manage their projects and integrate with fabrication and design models. The core of FabSuite View is a platform that will enable multiple viewers – of the user’s choice – to be integrated with the FabSuite program and bill of material. In its first release however, only the integration with FabSuite’s own viewer – rebranded from Datacomp’s BIM Vision – will be enabled. Integrating other common industry model viewers will follow in 2018 and beyond.
FabSuite users will continue to import data and use the program in exactly the same way as now, using common, industry standard, or existing formats and tools already available. The integration with the model will be a seamless transition, linking and integrating bill of material data with model data extracted in the industry standard IFC format. FabSuite View puts the project model into the hands of everyone who needs it without the need for expensive modeling tools or complicated set-ups. The result is a visual context of project data that helps steel fabricators manage projects more efficiently. “FabSuite View will provide our customers with unrivalled insight to their projects”, stated Chris Moor, COO of FabSuite. “It adds another dimension to their ability to track projects throughout their lifecycle by enabling models to be shared among the project team and colorized, interrogated and filtered easily”.
On the choice of Datacomp’s BIM Vision as a rebranded viewer, Moor continued “we investigated many IFC model viewers before settling on BIM Vision and in the end it was an easy decision. They have the best and easiest viewer we have tested, their responsiveness and support is best in class and the API they provided – along with documentation – was second to none. Bottom line, they made it easy for us and we believe we are delivering the best product possible for our customers.”
“The cooperation with FabSuite LLC from Virginia, US is a great challenge for us, because we enter into the very demanding segment of steel fabrication where we need to deal with very detailed 3D models with a very high level of accuracy. I am also very happy we can help FabSuite to take advantage of the new BIM methods using our technology” said Maciej Wojtasiewicz, Vice President of Datacomp.
